A drawing, because nobody has sent us a photograph of TANAPA Rest House, Mang'ula yet. Send five and this page changes the same week.
The simplest way to stay at the point where everything starts. It is a basic rest house at park headquarters, not a lodge, and TANAPA publishes no detail on rooms or facilities. What it buys you is the shortest possible distance between waking up and being on the Sanje trail, which on a 4 to 5 hour climb matters more than a comfortable mattress.
Why you'd pick it
- Sleeping at the trailhead, so you can be walking by 07:00
- Your money goes directly to the park
- Book ahead: there is no walk-up availability
What the park charges on top
The rate above buys you a bed. Udzungwa Mountains National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.
- Park entry$30 plus 18% VAT, charged per 24 hours.
- $35.4per person, per day
Three nights means three days inside, so two adults pay $212.4 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.
No vehicle fee is published, and there are no game-drive roads to use one on.
The full fee schedule for Udzungwa Mountains National ParkRates
$50 per person per night. Same rate for expatriates and residents. East African citizens TSh 30,000. Official TANAPA tariff figure.
What the rate covers is not confirmed. We do not know yet whether meals, drinks and activities are included, so read this as the bed only.
Every figure on this page is in US dollars.
Indicative 2026 rates gathered in July 2026 from operators' own material and the official TANAPA tariff. Always confirm directly with the property. Note that TANAPA park fees and the compulsory guide fee are separate from every rate below, so add roughly $35.40 per adult per day plus $23.60 per group per day for walking.
